Provenance

Every stone in our main collection traces to a single source: my father, John Ekstrom, a member of the Swedish Gemmological Society, who acquired the inventory primarily during the 1970s in what was then Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The collection has remained in family hands since. This is not a curated assortment built from the wholesale market. It is a single collector's archive from a specific time and place — predating the modern treatment industry that began transforming sapphire, ruby, and beryl markets in the 1980s and 1990s. 

Treatments 

The vast majority of our collection is unheated and untreated. This is a function of when and where the stones were sourced: high-heat treatment was virtually unknown in Sri Lanka in the 1970s. Diffusion, beryllium treatment, glass-filling, and modern irradiation techniques did not yet exist or were not in commercial use.

Lab Certification 

A majority of the stones in the collection currently hold certificates from Lotus Gemology (Bangkok) or the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (GIT). Where a cert exists, we link the report on the product page and the cert is authoritative for that stone's species, treatment, and (where called) origin. For stones currently uncertified, we are progressively submitting them to GIT and Lotus as our chosen labs. As certs return, product pages update. Sale is subject to a lab report that will confirm the details and specs written on the product pages. 

Authentication Photography 

NO image editing or AI enhancement done to stone images. The type of light upon photo shoots is captioned on image in its gallery.

Each product page includes two galleries: 

The Stone — face-up images showing the gem as it appears to the eye. Inside The Stone — backlit and 10x loupe images revealing internal characteristics. Natural inclusions — silk needles, twin planes, healing fractures, fingerprints, mineral guests, color zoning, growth lines — are diagnostic features that prove natural origin. 

Synthetic stones do not contain these features. Treated stones often show telltale residues that natural stones do not. 

The "Inside The Stone" gallery is not for typical flashy sales images. It is natural evidence, while it is revealing inner beauty and authenticity. Buyers can basically examine the same internal features a gemologist would examine before authenticating a stone. 

Limitations

We acknowledge limits. Photographs cannot conclusively prove the absence of treatment or synthesis. Some treatments — beryllium diffusion, certain heat applications, and Verneuil-process synthesis at high quality — leave traces visible only under specialized lab conditions: refractometry, spectroscopy, immersion microscopy, FTIR, EDXRF. 

Where a stone has not been lab-certified, the provenance argument and inclusion evidence are strong indicators, but they are not equivalent to a Lotus or GIT report, the two labs we have chosen to work with. 

Pricing 

Prices reflect dealer-to-collector and dealer-to-dealer trade levels — not end-consumer retail markups. Buyers reselling through their own channels can do so without renegotiating from inflated baselines.
